Coinciding with the release of TRON: Ares, I’ve decided to give TomFinley.com a refresh, with its own Halloween costume inspired by the aesthetic of the movie. I’ve also updated my signature “TF” ligature-logo to be more balanced and clean as well as serve as a reference the TRON lightcycle trails.

Foundation
TomFinley.com is built as a custom Ollie child theme, leveraging Big Shoulders, Mona Sans, and ProFont for Powerline. For the homepage hero dithering effect, I used this handy Atkinson Dithering utility.
Site Extras
There are a lot of tiny details on the site that I put significant effort into. Achieving the angled corner aesthetic on my group, image, and cover blocks was a challenging task. Eventually I’ll write that up into a blog post.
In the course of redeveloping the site, I also created 2 novel plugins with — Block Text Animator and Block Typing Effects. They’re similar in principle but serve 2 different functions. Block Text Animator is used for swapping out text strings, as demonstrated in my homepage hero. Block Typing Effects says what it does — leveraging InnerBlocks, you can nest existing WordPress block content in it, to achieve a variety of “typed text” animations.
